October

This was a busy month for the NUkeS, we had two great meetings to get us prepared for the gig at Z's One Year Anniversary party on the 28th. Both meetings this month were small gatherings but still a lot of fun. Will B. was kind enough to give me an ukulele to cut in half on my bandsaw so that I could show children and adults what the inside of a uke looks like. It has been cut and I will bring it to the next meeting for everyone to see (and don't feel bad for the uke, it's a real cheap chinese import). Once again Jack brought his acoustic bass to the first October meeting and really added a new dimension to the mix. It was great to have that bass thumping behind the ukes - thanks Jack and please come back to the meetings with that giant uke of yours. We had a new member show up for both October meetings, Terry Kinakin, and he wowed us with his chord soloing chops and his new, beautiful Cordoba ukulele. He arrived late to the first October meeting (right at the meetings close) but he was there for the entire second meeting. Welcome to the NUkeS Terry and thank you to everyone who came out to the meetings this month. And if you didn't make it - we missed you and hope you can make it to the next one.The party at Z's went very well, there were small crowds most of the time we were in there playing and the children were dancing to some of our songs. I even heard people clapping once or twice, and the best part of all was when a big crowd of kids and parents joined in on the chorus to 'Clementine' - that was great fun. Zipporah and Steve (Z's Deli owners) were very excited and thankful to have us there. They even let NUkeS members eat free (but you had to know the password - my dog has fleas). Thanks Zipporah and Steve!! Let's do it again next October. The Nashville Ukulele Society was recently featured in a small article in the Lockeland Srpings Fountain, the Loceland Neighborhood newsletter - I will bring a copy of that article to the next meeting for those of you who do not get that paper.Next meeting is November 20th - see you there.
