January 2007
Well it was great to get the NUkeS together at Z's once again, and I was happy to see some new faces. And thank you to Micheal who was kind enough and brave enough to be our soloist, and despite the fact that he had never played an ukulele before he really sounded great on those solos. Thanks again Micheal!!We worked on a few of the tunes from our list (online) but a new-comer, John, brought copies of 'Hey Good Lookin' for everyone, and while we probably didn't do it quite the way Hank Williams did it, we still sounded pretty darn good.
I made an announcement regarding one of the purposes of The Nashville Ukulele Society and that was this: In addition to getting together for fun once per month I also want to have the uke club go out into the community to perform for nursing homes, retirement homes, children's hospitals and things of the like. I hope that by Spring we will be ready to make an appearance someplace where we can bring some joy to some folks who could really use it.
Someone asked if our club has dues and the answer to that is 'no'- at present there are no dues and I have no plans to start collecting them. If in the future there should arise some monetary need for something that would benefit the whole club then we can 'pass the hat' at that time. But for now there are no dues.
If you didn't make it out to the meeting, you were missed and we really would like to see you come to the next one. If the third Wed. of each month doesn't work out for you, please stay in the loop by practicing the songs that are on the 'songs' page on the website so when the NUkeS do make an appearance somewhere you can come along and not feel totally lost. Hope to see you all at the next meeting.
